The Owatonna Foundation was incorporated in 1958, but the roots of citizen involvement in Owatonna go back to the 1800s when a citizen bequeathed money to add a watering trough for horses.

We need your support

When thinking about all that has been accomplished by the disbursement of nearly nine million dollars—gifts given to the community by the community—it is important to remember the name “Owatonna Foundation.” While we are fortunate to live in a community where philanthropic leaders have donated generously, the financial support of most Foundation projects comes from a broader population of contributors within the community.

One of the greatest challenges for survival of a community foundation is to meet the IRS rule of having one-third of its income derived from current contributions. This means that a strong foundation, such as the Owatonna Foundation, cannot solely exists on its investment returns to maintain a tax-exempt status. It is continually dependent upon voluntary contributions.

You can help safeguard the continued presence of the Foundation in our community by making a direct donation, either in behalf of a loved one, or by making a personal bequest of money or property. Both methods are fully tax-deductible and enable us to continue to provide our community with a vital link between our past, present, and future.
